PokerStars

PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site, went offline in the Netherlands. In doing so, they granted the request of the Dutch Kansspelautoriteit. The regulator notified all online casinos and poker sites without an official license to leave the Dutch market before November 1st, 2021.

On Friday, October 1st of last year, the online gambling market in the Netherlands has opened with precisely ten official licensed brands. Other providers of online casino games, including online poker sites, have left the Dutch market immediately.

So did PokerStars, otherwise they could face hefty fines. However, PokerStars is one of the brands that will be eligible for a license in the Netherlands at a later moment, after it finishes its cooling down period for promoting their product illegally before the deadline of November 1st of last year.

When will PokerStars Netherlands reopen?

So far, parent company Flutter Entertainment has not been licensed by the Gaming Authorization and its not yet clear whether or when PokerStars Netherlands will reopen. However, there are rumours that PokerStars will be one of the gambling companies that will be licensed by the Dutch Kansspelautoriteit in the third quarter of 2022.
